Work pods are happening in a big way. They’re movable, marvelously convenient, and they “mum” the word, reducing open space noise. Late to the party? Here are the top 5 questions we get about the relatively new breed of flexible office furniture.

The top 5 questions about work pods for offices answered

The top 5 questions about work pods – TL;DR

  1. Do they get stuffy? No. A pod with a continual ventilation system will stay fresh.

  2. Will I feel claustrophobic in an office pod? Not if your pod has great airflow, transparent glass panels on 2 of 4 sides, and sophisticated acoustics (making it enjoyably quiet, not stark quiet).

  3. How quiet are office pods? Office pods are comfortably quiet. They maintain roughly 40dB of sound, which is a pleasant volume supportive of focus.

  4. Are they all about isolating employees from each other? No. Pods aren’t about isolating for extended periods of time but rather isolating as needed.

  5. What about germs? For health, safety, and peace of mind, get a pod with an antivirus coating. Learn about ours here.

1.   Do office pods get stuffy?

No — a quality office pod will never get stuffy! The feature to look for is constant ventilation or “continuous air exchange.”

Take Hush’s ventilation system as a model.

Motion-activated, kicking on the instant you enter the pod. Gives you a steady supply of brand-new oxygen from the office space as you’re working, meeting, or breaking. Complete with a shutdown delay triggered shortly after you leave the pod (for max efficiency).

Setting foot in a premium office pod is like catching a breath of fresh air — literally and figuratively. Right away, you’re calmed by the clutter-free, low-commotion environment. You’re able to take a beat. And every breath is revitalizing, thanks to the pod’s continuous ventilation

– lends Mateusz Barczyk, Senior Brand Manager, Hushoffice.

2.   Will I feel claustrophobic in a pod?

Nope. We guarantee it.

First-rate pods like those in the Hushoffice line are carefully designed for comfort.

They’re surprisingly spacious. Efficient fans keep them airy. Glass panels foster connection to your team beyond (on a subconscious level). And fine acoustics give you a lovely lull. You won’t feel “boxed in” in a pod or cut off from your team, but rather nicely separated from the floor’s fuss.

HushPhone, hushHybrid, hushMeet, hushWork.sit&stand, and hushMeet.L are 4 of our most popular pods. They all lend a resimercial vibe. Want a first-person account — what it’s like to use each one? Check it out: Private pods. What does privacy actually feel like in an office pod?

3.   How quiet are acoustic pods and booths?

Quiet, but not too quiet. Just right. High-caliber pods are engineered to block out a target amount of sound from the floor, not all of it. As a result, their interior is blissfully still, not bleak.

“Not only are pods acoustically ambient for the user. They contain all noise made inside, making the workplace better, acoustically, for people on the floor, too,” offers Mateusz Barczyk, Senior Brand Manager, Hushoffice.

Acoustic cabins for the office are fine-tuned for focus.

Take Hushoffice pods once again. In technical terms, their interior maintains about 40dB of sound. Not a fluke — 40dB is proven to be the best volume for concentration. Any louder, and you’d be disturbed, unable to home in on your work. Any quieter, and you’d feel weird (like you were in a vacuum).

4.   Are privacy pods all about isolating employees from each other?

No. Pods aren’t meant to isolate employees from one another permanently but rather to allow employees to isolate themselves as needed.

Isolation booths for the office like hushTwin are for intermittent heads-down work. HushTwin is a cut above the rest for its compactness — it's a conjoined duo-pod, made of two complete but separate workspaces taking up just ~21 square feet of space total.

Modern office privacy pods can actually make the office more social.

How? Take meeting pods like hushMeet (for 4). They trap noise. Inside, teams can get rambunctious, enjoying hardier collaboration. Or consider 2-person acoustic pods like hushMeet.S — they lend speech privacy, encouraging more fluid 1:1 conversations.

A semi-enclosed cabin like hushMeet.open functions as a semi-acoustic social hub. It's a clever way to create a hang spot because it's mobile, catering to change.

By making the office more functional at a high level, pods help lure employees back to the workplace. With more of your team together more often, socialization naturally blooms

– says Mateusz Barczyk, Senior Brand Manager, Hushoffice.

5.   What about germs?

For health, safety, and peace of mind, get a pod with an antivirus coating. All frequently touched surfaces in every Hushoffice pod are covered with one — a thin nano-photocatalyst solution activated by light. It prevents the development of viruses and other microbes, easing worry about germs.

Open office pods can make the workplace more sanitary.

Open offices once had 62% more sick days than regular layouts. Why? Without walls to stop them in their tracks, germs can spread like wildfire. Pods bring some walls back. And since 80% of diseases are transmitted by contaminated surfaces, an antivirus coating is a smart move, killing germs on the spot.
